Digital Security Systems monitors crime with groundbreaking wireless solution

By: VonDez Phipps, SKNVibes
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WITH an upsurge in crime and a cry for an innovative approach to tackle it, Digital Security Systems Ltd. along with Sound Solutions Inc. has introduced the latest in high-tech crime-fighting services to St. Kitts-Nevis.

The new solution is designed as an outdoor, widespread industrial camera system that can monitor streets, alleys, businesses, community sites and small neighbourhoods while also being able to backhaul video for monitoring in real time.

After a full year of extensive testing, Digital Solutions now spans over 30 miles of surveillance and has gained significant momentum in introducing its new solution.

Setting up a camera is very simple. The company installs one of its high-tech cameras on a light pole near to the area to be monitored, and within 45 minutes the staff at Digital Security Systems will be able to screen the area. There is no need for setting up another wireless system or a new energy source; all that is required is an antenna planted on the roof of the building under surveillance to allow prompt and reliable backhaul to the company headquarters located at Amory Drive.

The new surveillance solution has endless advantages, as it can give 24-7 video coverage to school zones, business districts, high crime areas, high traffic areas and various community facilities. Through this, it would be able to monitor traffic and spot suspicious criminal activity before it happens.

The company offers revolutionary technology at a reasonable price to ensure that every business and government institution can enjoy the benefits of the exclusive service.

In an interview with SKNVibes, CEO Michael Peets explained that the network was installed about year ago and that each high-quality camera unit and receiver was built right here in the Federation. In explaining the features of the surveillance solution, he assured customers and prospective clients that the system cannot be hacked into due to heavy firewall encryption.

In the last three years of the company’s existence, they have been able to make a name for themselves using cutting-edge technology that not only maintains constant surveillance but also deters crime in the various covered areas. Digital Security Systems Ltd. has developed a substantial portfolio since its establishment in January 2006, doing surveillance work for ICC Cricket World Cup and covering all of the camera surveillance at the air and sea ports in both St. Kitts and Nevis.

“St. Kitts is a small community, but we realize that we have been having an upsurge in crime. The relevance of this solution is that it will firstly act as a deterrent to crime. At the same time, if there is a crime and we have cameras that are in that vicinity, then we’ll have electronic footage of the actual crime happening as opposed to asking questions after the fact.

“It is a big plus for the country and everyone should come on board to help push forward this solution,” Peets stated.

With the aim to assist police and other relevant security authorities, Digital Security Solutions has invested almost EC $100 000 in enhancing and improving the already-existing infrastructure. Peets informed that when he realized his company has the technology available and the knowhow to help end crime, he found it necessary to apply them in the most affordable way possible.

According to the Marketing Consultant of Direct Response Marketing Group, James Browne, the new solution is mainly targeting the government, the business community and community-established groups.

He indicated that the business community has shown great interest. While the government has been involved in some part, Browne indicated that there is much more cooperating to be done in order for the solution to deliver its full and desired effect.

“Crime and violence affect all of us, and so we are actually calling on the government and the business community to come onboard to have a vested interest in something of this effect. Even small communities that have councils or associations can put together to get surveillance for their neighbourhood,” he stated.

The new wireless surveillance solution was officially launched roughly two weeks ago, and since that time has been making progress as more businesses and community groups are recognizing the benefits to be gained.

Other services offered by Digital Security Services Ltd. include alarm systems, cameras, monitor and response, access controls, fire systems, high-end audio installations, home automation and automotive security.
