CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – THE students of the Charlestown Primary School returned to class on Monday (Sept. 7) after a nine-week summer vacation only to be greeted by a new principal, Kevin Barrett.

Barrett, a teacher for over 20 years, served as the Deputy Principal at the school under Alice Swanston until she retired from her duty last year after seventeen years.

Education Officer Avril Elliot welcomed Barrett to his new post on behalf of the Ministry of Education on Monday at the school.
She told the assembly of students, teachers and parents that she knows Barrett would do a good job because he was “brought up well under Mrs. Swanston”. She added that Barrett begins his tenure with the fullest support of the ministry.

Barrett welcomed the new and returning students, and stated that he is ready to help the community, the students and teachers of the school in any way possible.

He also urged the children to give their full respect to all teachers as they embark upon an exciting new year.
