BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE string of earthquakes in the region continues, as yesterday (Jan. 29), in the Western Caribbean, Jamaica shook again one day after the island was hit by a magnitude 7. .

On Tuesday, a magnitude 7.7 quake struck between off the coast of Jamaica, Cuba and the Cayman Islands.

The quake occurred at a shallow depth of 6 miles and was centered 19.3 degrees North and 78.8 degrees West.

Images from the islands show some level of damage to roads and buildings as many fled their homes and workplaces during the shaking.

In a media statement, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management said at least two parishes in Western Jamaica have reported structural damage to buildings.

A Tsunami warning was in effect and has since been discontinued.

Early yesterday, reports out of Jamaica said the island was rattled by a magnitude 5.1 on the Richter Scale.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the tremor had a depth of 10 km and was reportedly felt in the western end of the island.

That quake came a day after Trinidad and Tobago was jolted by a magnitude 5.3 on the Richter Scale.

The University of the West Indies Seismic Research Center said that the quake occurred 59 km West Southwest of San Fernando, 80 km Southwest of Port of Spain, and in Tobago 97 km Southwest of Arima.
