(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana - Friday, 31 Jan. 2020) -- The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has expressed condolences on the passing of Brynmor T. Pollard SC, OR, CCH, of Guyana, a legal luminary whose service to his country and the Region, it has described as "distinguished and exemplary".

CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, in a message of condolence to the Pollard Family, said the CARICOM Secretariat and the Region are heavily indebted to Bryn for his considerable legal skills which he brought to bear in drafting many of the instruments that helped to frame Community law during his 16 years at the Secretariat, first as a consultant, then as Legal Counsel and the first General Counsel in 1994.

The Secretary-General noted that Mr. Pollard’s extensive work on the harmonisation of laws in the early days of the Community was of great importance to the advancement of the integration movement.

Ambassador LaRocque said the Region also benefitted from his contribution through the Council for Legal Education, to the establishment and development of the Norman Manley and Hugh Wooding Law Schools in Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago respectively.

Bryn Pollard died in his native Guyana on Friday, 24 January 2020 at the age of 91.
