BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, February 14, 2020 (PLP PR Media Inc.) -- The Federation is moving in the right direction, and Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris is thanking the people of St. Kitts and Nevis who when faced with a choice at the last general elections, chose Team Unity.

At a press conference held at the Ocean Terrace Inn (OTI) Conference Centre on Thursday February 13, Prime Minister Harris thanked the electorate, “because when faced with a choice on the 16th of February 2015, the people of St. Kitts and Nevis in an overwhelming way chose Team Unity. On behalf of my Cabinet colleagues and my own personal behalf, I want to express our sincerest gratitude and appreciation.”

The press conference, said Prime Minister Harris, is part of a series that the Team Unity Administration has been executing as part of its good governance agenda. The press conference also forms part of Team Unity’s fifth anniversary celebrations that are being held under the theme ‘Team Unity 2020: Delivering a Stronger, Safer Future’.

Five years after the Team Unity’s success at the 2015 elections, the Honourable Prime Minister who is also the National Political Leader of the Peoples Labour Party (PLP), said now people can all stand very pleased that the country is a beacon for many. He noted that persons come from other islands and countries, and few want to leave what they consider to be paradise.

“We give thanks for this,” said Prime Minister Harris. “Our economy is stronger and better than it was in 2015. Our country is moving in the right direction. We have delivered in keeping with our manifesto commitments and we have gone even beyond them, to address several of the issues left behind in our country.”

Also making remarks at the press conference were the Deputy Prime Minister and Leader of the People’s Action Movement (PAM), the Hon Shawn Richards, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Leader of the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) who is also the Premier of Nevis, the Hon Mark Brantley.

It is indicative that on the eve of this year’s Valentine’s Day, Thursday February 13, the two leaders of political parties that along with the Peoples Labour Party (PLP) led by Dr Harris make the tripartite coalition movement, unequivocally endorsed Prime Minister Harris as Team Unity’s standard bearer when 2020 elections are called.

The press conference was attended by all members of the Team Unity Administration Cabinet. The others were Senior Minister and Minister of Labour the Hon Vance Amory, Minister of Public Infrastructure the Hon Ian Patches Liburd, Minister of Agriculture the Hon Eugene Hamilton, Minister of Tourism the Hon Lindsay Grant, Attorney General the Hon Vincent Byron, and Minister of State for Health the Hon Wendy Phipps.

Questions were asked by members of the media, including a journalist from Trinidad and Tobago, and a well know Rastafarian activist Mr Samande Reid better known as Ras Iya.

Also present at the press conference included National Chairman of the People’s Action Movement (PAM) Ambassador Jonel Powell, Cabinet Secretary Mrs Josephine Huggins, and Permanent Secretaries, Mr Andrew Skerritt (Office of the Prime Minister), Mr Osmond Petty (National Security), Mr Osbert DeSuza (Office of the Prime Minister), and Mrs Elreter Simpson-Browne (Sustainable Development).
