Two artistes’ names released for 26th Independence Freedom Concert line-up

I-Wayne

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts- SKNVIBES PEP scored an exclusive today on the line-up for the 26th Independence Freedom Concert, which will be held next Saturday, September 19.

According to the head of the freedom concert sub-committee, Mahlon Goma, both I-Wayne and Wayne Wonder were confirmed last evening.

I-Wayne, who was born Cliffroy Taylor in Portmore, Jamaica, is known for conscientious, hard-hitting lyrics on tracks like ‘Can’t Satisfy Her’ and ‘Living in Love’, which are on his debut album ‘Lava Ground’.

Wayne Wonder, who was born Von Wayne Charles in Kingston, Jamaica, has made over 10 albums.  He brought out the first one in 1987 titled ‘Wayne Wonder’.  Wonder’s hits include ‘No Letting Go’, ‘You’, ‘Bounce Along’, ‘Hold Me Now’ and ‘Something Different’.

When asked about the rumour that Buju Banton will be on the concert line-up, Goma said the organizers tried very hard to get him but learnt that the artiste is touring the US on a more than 30-show schedule.

The sub-committee chair also said they are working on getting Mr. Vegas, but added that the ‘Hot Wuk’ singer might be on tour as well.

Goma told SKNVibes that the organizers have not decided on a venue for the event.

He explained that the Warner Park Stadium is not an option, as cricket matches are being played there now.

Goma said the only other suitable place in Basseterre is Frigate Bay.   However, he said residents of Frigate Bay have voiced complaints about the constant noise that is in the area, in general.  So Goma told SKNVibes that Frigate Bay, too, will be out of the question as the venue.

He added that the concert therefore may be held outside of Basseterre.

This will be the fourth staging of the annual Independence Freedom Concert.  Last year’s concert featured Assassin, Christopher Martin and Junior Kelly; all of whom are from Jamaica.
