St. Kitts and Nevis Foreign Service Officer participates in U.S. Sponsored Leadership Program

By: US Embassy, Press Release

March 2, 2020 -- Sheldon Henry, a Foreign Service Officer with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of St. Kitts and Nevis, is currently in the United States participating in the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). The exchange, focused on “Youth and Civic Engagement,” began on February 29 in Washington, D.C.

During the three-week program, Henry will also travel to Baltimore, Maryland; Sacramento, California; and Portland, Oregon. He and participants from around the world will examine strategies for facilitating youth political participation, small business development, civil society expansion, and grassroots engagement. Together with local U.S. leaders, the group will examine leadership strategies and communication skills used to balance diverse social demands and interests.

Henry serves as the Vice President of the Caribbean Youth Environmental Network and sits on the UNDP National Steering Committee.  He is a prominent member of the Regional Steering Committee on Youth Advocacy and works with United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on the National Advisory Board – Youth Empowerment Services (YES) Project.

The IVLP is the Department of State’s premier professional exchange program. It brings together emerging leaders in their respective professions to engage with U.S. counterparts and share best practices. This year marks the 80th anniversary of IVLP, which now includes over 225,000 alumni including numerous heads of state, business leaders, and human rights advocates.
