BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FEAR struck the community of Sandy Point earlier tonight (Sep. 11) when news of one of its prominent businessmen and his family being held hostage began to circulate.

According to confirmed reports, Kenrick ‘Ricky’ Isaac, proprietor of Lantern Night Club, along with his son, were held at gunpoint while attempting to enter his residence about 6:55 this evening.

While details of the ambush remain sketchy, police officials on the scene informed this media house that about three heavily-armed masked men held Isaac and his 15-year old son outside their house moments after they disembarked their vehicle.

The unknown assailants, according to police, moved indoors and proceeded to bind the hands of the two hostages with duct tape. This media house understands that a number of demands was made but, as to the nature of these demands, that information has not been disclosed.

Residents of the area became suspicious when the sound of a gunshot echoed over the hillside community.  This heightened concern led to the immediate contacting of the Sandy Point Police Station which triggered a prompt response from off-duty officers in the area. Neighbours gathered quickly and a number of them made their way up to Isaac’s house, located above the cane range in the area.

Police confirmed that one shot was fired in the area but there were no reported injuries. While the officers were not able to explain how the two hostages escaped the ordeal unscathed, they informed that the assailants quickly fled the scene. Their mode of escape however, remains unclear.

Police officers from St. Pauls and Old Road Police Stations assisted those stationed in Sandy Point while members from the Crisis Response Unit came on the scene about an hour after.

At this point, no suspects have been arrested relative to this matter but police personnel informed that investigations have begun and will continue.

Press and Public Relations Officer to the police force, Inspector Cromwell Henry confirmed that there was a robbery at Isaac’s home but offered very few details.  He, however, appealed to the public for assistance in solving this case.

“We always solicit the public’s assistance in these matters and we continue to so do.  We ask any person who may has any information about this attack to contact the Sandy Point Police Station at 465-6261.  Any information received would be treated with strict confidence.”
