CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – NEVIS joins the rest of the region in celebrating Caribbean Wellness Month in September. A number of activities are planned, including the Wellness Walk that took place yesterday (Sept. 11) in Charlestown. Weekend Vibes asked some of the participants about their plans for their health.
Marcia Maynard (Goju Karate Nevis Dojo) We don’t do anything to prepare for Wellness Day. We train all day long. There are a couple of schools involved in this training. They don’t train together, but when they come together they follow the same command. What they are learning is self discipline, self control and self-defense, and with that comes all the physical and health decisions. That is the kind of sport martial arts is.
Sharon - I am doing everything to keep myself fit. I do my usual walk, exercising, eating healthy and try to keep fit.
Shanroy and Edecia (Rhythmz) – Yes! We are mentally and physically fit through dancing.
Bethany – I am doing everything to keep my wellness. I am an athlete at Charlestown Primary School and when the athletics season is over I do bike riding to keep in shape. Apart from the exercise I eat well.
Sonia – Yes! Of course I am eating well. I exercise daily, drink plenty of water and try my best to stay away from fatty foods.
Nadine- Well, if the price of food goes down, I can do better by eating organic food. The price affects the way you eat. If fruits and vegetables go down, then we can stop buying the starchy foods and purchase the healthier ones.
