PM Harris assures Team Unity Government will deliver safer and stronger future

Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, presenting a token of appreciation on behalf of Constituency Number Seven Domino League to Rev Adlyn Mgonela
By: Peter Ngunjiri, Press Release

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, July 27, 2020 (PLP PR Media Inc.) -- Dr the Hon Timothy Harris has assured the nation that in his second term as Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis he will endeavour to do his very best to ensure Team Unity Government, as promised, will deliver a safer and stronger future for all.

Dr Harris who is the sponsor of the longest running domino league in the Federation, Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League, made the remarks on Sunday July 26 at the Ebenezer (Estridge) Moravian Church in Mansion, where he had accompanied members of the domino fraternity for worship in celebration of the league’s 25th anniversary.

He was welcomed by Rev Adlyn Mgonela who observed that it was the first time he was attending the church in Mansion since he was re-elected for a second term as the Prime Minister. She offered him words of wisdom based on examples of King Solomon who is known for stories told in the Bible about his wisdom, and wished him (Dr Harris) well.

“I want to thank the pastor for her good wishes, extended to me, extended to the government - extended to all of us,” said Prime Minister Harris in response to comments made by Rev Mgonela.  “I certainly will endeavour to do my very best as the Prime Minister of the country and to accept her wise counsel and to assist me in delivering on behalf of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis. The promise still remains that the second term Team Unity Government shall deliver a safer and stronger future for all.”

The domino fraternity was led by President of the Executive Committee, and Co-ordinator of Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League, Mr Calvin Farrell, who gave brief remarks as he presented a historical perspective of the league since it was formed in 1996.

Before Dr Harris came to address the congregation, Rev Adlyn Mgonela requested to directly address him where she gave the example of Solomon of the Bible who had asked God to give him wisdom. She noted that it was not only granted, as God also granted him riches. She added that Solomon had asked for a discerning heart because he did not really want wisdom because he already had it, but he asked especially for wisdom in political matters.

“That was what mattered to Solomon - the ability to distinguish between right and wrong when the lines are blurred, when there is the grey area and he is not sure which way to go,” explained Rev Mgonela. “Wisdom does not end when the person who receives it, but rather wisdom goes from the person to others around you, pushing through for the sake of people, for building up people, and so the benefit then will be felt across our Federation.”

She implored the Prime Minister to ask God for that specific thing that he needs to have when he is going to carry out the task that God has entrusted into his care.

“We continue to pray for you here at Ebenezer,” said Rev Mgonela. “We continue to cover you with the blood of Jesus; we continue to lift you up; we congratulate you and your Cabinet and pray that you will walk in the path of righteousness, of truth, of justice, of equality, of mercy, of love and compassion.”

Prime Minister Harris who had also been accompanied by Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Senator the Hon Dr Bernicia Nisbett, presented a token of appreciation to the church on behalf of Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League, which was received by Rev Adlyn Mgonela.
