BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Ministry of Education’s Early Childhood Unit has informed that five Early Childhood Centers have been approved for operation under the new guidelines announced by the Government for such entities to be reopened.
At a special National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) media conference yesterday afternoon (Aug. 8), Director of the Early Childhood Center Kimona Browne explained that a number of new measures were implemented for the reopening daycare centers.
She also announced that over the last two weeks a number of discussions were held with public and private childhood facilities for the possibility of early reopening. Following those interactions, several facilities were given the stamp of approval by the Center and the Ministry of Education for reopening. “I am happy to report that five centers have been assessed and granted approval for reopening.
A number of private centers have been scheduled to be assessed next week. Additionally, 14 of 15 early childhood Public have been given approval and will be in operation from Monday, 10 August 2020.” The Old Road Day Care Center is one of the facilities that has not been given approval, according to the Director, who said they are hopeful of having that facility approved for the scheduled reopening of school in September. All educational institutions in the Federation were shut down due to the effect of the Coronavirus in March.
According to the Director, at each of the approved centers, the certificate of approval would be posted in a conspicuous place at the entrance of the facility. Meanwhile, the review of centers on Nevis is expected to begin “shortly”.
