, St. Kitts (December 01, 2005): The 2005 edition of Children's Carnival aims to encourage greater communication and interaction among young people and adults which in turn will help to create a more friendly society.
This view was shared by Senior Youth Officer Dave Connor during an interview with SKNIS. Connor explained that Children's Carnival allows persons to interact in a fun-filled environment. This, he said, casts persons in a different light and provides meaningful bonding opportunities as students and teachers work together.

The theme for the December 31 event is "It's Game Time Again. Vincentian costume designer/maker Julian Pollard is leading a team of professionals and volunteers in creating the costumes based on traditional board and outdoor games such as ludo, rabbit in the coob, green bush, cricket, football and marbles. Pollard saluted the Youth Department for selecting the theme.

"Today with technology, you find that young people are playing Nintendo and Playstation & and these are not very interactive & so we wanted to portray games that tend to teach people to interact with each other," he stressed. A lot of these games (to be featured in the parade) teach you to solve problems and play with people in a way which does not promote violence.

"You learn to lose, you learn to win, you learn to just be in the game and have fun, so I think the troupe goes deeper than just showing the games you play. It has a real message," Pollard concluded.

Children's Carnival 2005 is sponsored by Cable and Wireless.
