BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - CHILDREN in the Federation can tomorrow (Sept. 16) go into the heart of Basseterre and take full advantage of the National Hero’s Day holiday and enjoy live entertainment with some of their favorite cartoon characters for an event dubbed “Heroes’ Day Parade and Kids Fest”.
The event starts at 2:00 p.m. with a parade of over 20 characters, including Dora the Explorer, Sponge Bob, Diego, Elmo, Winnie the Pooh and Spider Man, from the Treasury Building to Carnival City where it will climax with a concert.
During the parade, the characters will display a number of placards bearing different slogans. The children will then have the opportunity to mingle with their favorite characters.
The event is the brainchild of Hazel Jeffers, who informed that after the parade would have arrived at Carnival City, the Festival would begin around 3:30 p.m. and it would include numerous segments of activities.
“There will be a Sunday school segment, where various speakers will speak to the children about the importance of Sunday school. A culture segment, a crime segment and an educational segment,” Jeffers said while adding that the key is to incorporate a lot of different things in the children.
She also stated that the characters would engage in speaking to the children about drugs and crime. “We may not be able to reach all the children but we hope to reach even one child,” she said.
Other events include a magic show, dancing and performances by the characters.
Patrons are required to pay only $5 to ‘get in’ on all this excitement, where food, drinks and toys will be on sale.
So, children, ‘heg’ your mommies and daddies to take you out to see your favorite TV characters come to life while you play and sing along with them in the various theme songs.
