PAM' Secretariat

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, September 15th 2009, PAM Secretariat - When Prime Minister Sir Kennedy Simmonds built the South East Peninsula road to encourage development on the breathtakingly beautiful peninsula, Labour politicians derided the project as 'the road to nowhere.' They vehemently opposed and attacked the PAM leader every step of the way. Simmonds' vision was that the road, now named after him, would produce unprecedented development, provide jobs for locals and bring more economic activity and revenue to the Federation.

Two decades later, Prime Minister and leader of the Labour Party Dr. Denzil Douglas is acknowledging that PAM's vision was right. PAM's vision for development on the peninsula was forward thinking, and, if handled properly and above board, would be moving more quickly and providing even more benefit to the people of the Federation.

Unfortunately, the Prime Minister has taken PAM's vision and squandered it. He has given sweetheart deals to his foreign friends and engaged in shady deals that have served only to enrich himself. The Prime Minister has acquired 15 pieces of real estate, including two prime lots of land on the South East Peninsula.

Current PAM Leader Lindsay Grant responded to Labour's embrace of the PAM vision for the South East Peninsula by pointing out their hypocrisy and calling into question the Prime Minister's shady deals.

"Two decades later, Labour has finally acknowledged that the vision of Dr. Kennedy Simmonds was profound indeed," said Lindsay Grant. "We're glad that they've finally seen the light, but, their hypocrisy and their attempt to rewrite history pertaining to the South East Peninsula development is disturbing. It was PAM that had the vision for the South East Peninsula and it's Labour that attacked us every step of the way. Now, they're acknowledging that we were right all along."

Grant concluded, "What's most disturbing, however, is the way the Prime Minister has squandered the South East Peninsula. The questionable deals he's concluded along with the slow pace of construction call into question his motivations for the development. The Prime Minister has acquired two choice pieces of prime land on the Peninsula along with scores of other pieces of real estate in the Federation and abroad. Is the Prime Minister really looking after us or is he enriching himself at our expense? That's a question that deserves answering."
