BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FORMER drummer of Nu Vybes Band Oflyn ‘One Boot’ Rogers is now drumming for the reigning Road March Champs, the Grand Masters Band.
News came as shock to many residents when Rogers was seen playing with the Grand Masters Band on Tuesday (Sept. 15) evening at Tajh’s Bar in Lime Kiln.
Manager of Grand Masters Wingrove Hicks has confirmed that Rogers is a member of the band.
“The way in which he came about joining the band is not to be publicised. We don’t want it publicised and neither does he, but it’s true,” Hicks said.
Hicks said that Rogers is a great drummer and anyone would feel good having him.
When asked if Grand Masters did not have a drummer, Hicks said they never had a permanent drummer from the inception of the band.
“It’s not that we never wanted one, but we never had one and now we’ve decided to have one full-time instead of employing. We have always had drummers accessible to us,” he said.
Hicks said that the band would be playing at the Potential Bar on Cayon Street tomorrow night (Sept. 18) alongside Small Axe Band and Evolution Sounds.
On September 19 and 20 they will be playing at the Car Race and Horse Races in Nevis, respectively.
And on October 10 they will join Burning Flames, Jam Band and Small Axe for Miami Carnival while they will perform in St. Barths at the end of October.
Hicks revealed that the band has already started work on their Carnival album and on completion would concentrate on the LIME Proud Sounds Calypso Tent.
