BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE long-awaited plan to roll out a digital platform for TV subscribers in St. Kitts is in the pipeline and could be completed as soon as next year.

Officials at the Cable St. Kitts confirmed that work on the digital fibre optic network would begin in earnest in the coming weeks when the threat posed by COVID-19 eases.

At the company’s launch of its new online portal, officials were asked about the fibre optic network, which is expected to bring the company in line with other similar entities in a modern era.

According to Chief Executive Officer Patricia Walters, the company had planned to begin work early in this year but the Coronavirus impeded their push to begin the ground work.

While responding to a reporter’s question, the CEO noted that in the next two months “you will start seeing fibre upgrades”.

“Now, we have been upgrading our internet network all year. You will see our crew out. They were out there 24/7, seven days per week upgrading,” the CEO explained.

Upgrading of the internet service forms part of the company’s push to have faster speeds of service in homes or businesses that utilize the company’s product.

Walters noted that they are upgrading the fibre all the time.

“The high-speed fibre to the home network would commence, now that we have funded all resolved and in place, within the next two months,” added the CEO.

Former Minister of ICT, Vincent Byron had announced that the government and the company were looking at having the company be more digital when it comes to the way residents receive television and the internet in the Federation.

The CEO disclosed that when work is completed the company would move to market its digital IP for consumers.

When asked to provide a date for its completion, Walters said: “We hope that the entire rollout would be completed within the next two year.”
