Bulletproof vests, high-powered pistols among firearms found on robbery quartet

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE four individuals, who were taken into police custody for allegedly robbing residents of two homes in the Golf View Apartments in Frigate Bay on Wednesday (Sept. 16), had a number of high-powered firearms in their possession.

In providing details on the incident, some 48-hours later, police disclosed that sometime after 9:00 a.m. on the day in question, a report was received about an armed robbery taking place in the Frigate Bay area and officers from the Frigate Bay Police Station responded immediately.

They were ably assisted by ranks from the Special Services Unit.

On arrival at the scene, the officers intercepted a vehicle that was occupied by the suspects who were all wearing masks, bullet proof vests, gloves and sunglasses.

Investigations so far revealed that a number of men had entered two apartments and robbed the residents at gunpoint.

They reportedly stole a number of items and attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle.

As earlier reported by this publication, the vehicle was carrying licence plate number PA 7232, but further investigations by the police revealed that it was a fake plate used to cover the original one, which was a rental plate.

A search by the officers led them to discover four firearms - one Diamondback .380 Pistol, one Taurus Millennium Pro Pistol and two Mac-9 high-powered Pistols. They also discovered several items believed to have been taken from the apartments.

Police also said that throughout the day several search operations were carried out on a number of premises in relation to the incident and some items were taken into custody.

The officers who were involved in the arrest were commended by Commissioner of Police Hilroy Brandy.

He stated that it was because of their quick response that they were able to apprehend the suspects and take the firearms and vehicle into custody.

“I am urging persons to say something when they see something and to report crime to the police immediately. We will respond using whatever means necessary,” the Commissioner implored.

Up to press time, the identities of the four men were not released to the public by the police as they continue with their investigations into this incident.
