BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Fourth Annual Prime Minister’s Peace Concert held last evening (Sept. 19) at the Verchild’s Playing Field attracted hundreds of young people, who were entertained by a number of top regional and local artistes.

This year’s Peace Concert, courtesy of Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Denzil Douglas in celebration of the 26th Independence Anniversary of St. Kitts and Nevis, was aimed at bringing all the young people in the Federation together in Unity.

Dr. Douglas declared that the concert was really a gift for the young people of St. Kitts and Nevis as a whole, and those of Verchild’s and Old Road in particular.

“I want you to realise that it is your show in celebration of our 26th Anniversary of Independence. I want you to recognise at this Peace Concert tonight, which is to bring each and every young person together in unity, that there is no need for fighting and no need for violence. Let us take our responsibilities seriously and make sure we can make St. Kitts and Nevis a better place for all of us for the next 26 years of our Independence,” he said.

He thanked all those who were present for going out and enjoying themselves at the event. He also thanked the local artistes for turning up to perform at the concert and welcomed the foreign acts to the Federation.

The local artistes were more than happy to showcase their skills, as they took center stage performing their hits. The list included S.M.I, I.T.Y.C, Kollision Band, KC-5, Infamus, D.C, Jah Fire, Evolution Sounds and Sister Sensia.

They all warmed up the stage for the Jamaican acts which commenced with Roy Thompson, who is known in the dancehall world as ‘Bugle’.

The crowd seemingly enjoyed his hit single ‘What We Gonna Do’ and also ‘What have I done to you’ before he exited the stage.

The next performer was I-Wayne, who was born Cliffroy Taylor and is known for conscious, hard-hitting lyrics on tracks such as ‘Can’t Satisfy Her’ and ‘Living in Love’, which are on his debut album ‘Lava Ground’.

He was followed by I-Wayne, who performed his popularly known ‘Life Seeds’ and ‘Book of Life’. His voice was superb and sounded great performing live as he does on his albums.

The final Jamaican act was the ‘No Letting Go’ artiste, Wayne Wonder, who has been in the music business since 1987. He was born Von Wayne Charles in Kingston, Jamaica and has made over 10 albums during his career, including the hit ‘Bonafide Love (I don’t know why)’ that features Buju Banton.

He performed hits from his ‘Foreva’ album, which included ‘Again’ and ‘Love and Affection’.

The concert ended close to 4:00 this morning.
