Grenada moves to four-day quarantine

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - HEALTH officials in Grenada have moved to reduce the number of days certain visitors to the island will have to stay in quarantine for the COVID-19 virus.

According to information out of St. Georges, the Government has approved the reduction from 14 days to a four-day mandatory quarantine for anyone entering the country from what is described as “low risk” countries.

Media outlet Now Grenada reported that the new measure took effect from Tuesday (Sept. 29) and is mainly geared towards those who are travelling from locations outside of the CARICOM Bubble.

The Tourism Authority in the territory has indicated that persons looking to travel into the island must provide a negative PCR test required within seven days of their travel and must have a minimum of a four-day reservation at an approved accommodation for observation and quarantine.

Those announcements come as many territories in the region remain with their minimum seven-day quarantine for visitors outside of the CARICOM Bubble, due to the threat they pose coming from high-risk locations.

According to the Grenada authorities, “visitors on day four have the option to get PCR test to be allowed into the community, or remain at the hotel for the duration of their visit”.

It was noted that the residents on day four have to get a PCR test to be allowed to go home.

Many believe that the move is being made to attract more visitors to the tourism-dependent island chain, which has seen its level of travellers dwindle due to the pandemic.

How will this affect the territory to remain in the Bubble is a question that is being asked.
