PM Harris attends church service held in celebration of ECCB’s 37th anniversary

    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, October 5, 2020 (MMS-SKN) -- Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, who is also the Chairman of Monetary Council of Eastern Caribbean Currency Union, on Sunday October 4 joined Management and Staff of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) and ECCB sister Institutions for a special worship service in celebration of the institution’s 37th anniversary.
     
    Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, Mr Timothy N. J. Antoine, led management and staff of the Central Bank and its sister institutions, to the worship service at Rivers of Living Water Christian Centre in Lime Kiln, West Basseterre. The anniversary is being observed under the theme ‘Celebrating 37 years of a Strong Currency, Stable Financial System and Dedicated Service to Our People’.
     
    Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, which was founded in October 1983, is the monetary authority for the members of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), with the exception of the British Virgin Islands, and Martinique.
     
    It was founded with the goal of maintaining the stability and integrity of the sub-region’s currency system in order to facilitate the balanced growth and development of its member states. Its sister institutions are Eastern Caribbean Securities Exchange (ECSE), Eastern Caribbean Home Mortgage Bank (ECHMB), and Eastern Caribbean Partial Credit Guarantee Corporation (ECPCGC).
     
    Also attending the service were ECCB Deputy Governor Mr Trevor O. B. Brathwaite, ECCB Board Member for St. Kitts and Nevis Mrs Hilary Hazel, who is also St. Kitts and Nevis’ Financial Secretary, Eastern Caribbean Securities Exchange Board Member, Mr Michael Morton, who is also St. Kitts and Nevis’s Governor General’s Deputy, and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Senator the Hon Dr Bernicia Nisbett.
     
    Making brief remarks, Governor Timothy N. J. Antoine reminded the congregation of the five keys to money management, which he said were Earning, Spending, Saving, Investing, and Giving.
     
    “On that theme of giving, our Central Bank inquires of the church, how we could contribute, and to what ministry do we make a contribution,” said Governor Antoine. He volunteered the church’s food distribution ministry, and said: “I am pleased on behalf of the Central Bank to make a contribution. I am happy to make this contribution to the Food Distribution Ministry of the Rivers of Living Water Christian Centre.”
     
    According to the Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, the donation whose cheque was received by Pastor Ira Penny is to assist the needs of individuals and families. 
     
    The service was led by Prophetess Dr Debbie Isaac, whose message was entitled ‘Your gift is unique and it will make room for you’. She congratulated the Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris as the country is celebrating 37th anniversary of its independence, and Governor of Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Mr Timothy N. J. Antoine as his institution is celebrating its 37th anniversary.
     
    “Thirty seven years, as I realise, is a number that is very significant in our nation this year,” said Prophetess Isaac. “Our Nation made thirty seven years of independence, and now Eastern Caribbean Central Bank are celebrating 37th anniversary, and are also here in terms of how they teach people about the Financial Information Month, and I stand here today and I say: ‘Thirty seven years ago my husband (Apostle Dr Allan Isaac) and I decided - I do’.”
