BASSETERRE, St. Kitts- ON Saturday, September 19 the nation celebrated its 26th Independence Anniversary, and one of the events to mark the occasion was the Fourth Annual Prime Minister’s Freedom Concert. SKNVibes PEP took to the streets to get the people’s views and received mixed reactions.

According to Kenrick, it was great. “The artistes were well chosen according to the crime rate right now, because we need peace and love in the place.”

Bonzo, on the other hand, felt totally different. He said the concert was dumb and added that it needs to be brought back into Basseterre. “We need to done with the politics thing and just leave it as the Independence Freedom Concert, not no Prime Minister Freedom Concert.”

The lone female DJ in St. Kitts, Sweet Sister Sensia, said, “I think the freedom concert was very good and well put together; no violence, no crime. It was well sorted out and the organisers did very good in keeping it together. So, mad props to them.”

Another DJ, who prefers to go nameless, said, “The show was shitty, but I find that the local artistes performed very well. The international artistes did a poor job, especially the biggest artiste of the three, Mr. Wayne Wonder.”

Tammy said she was totally disappointed with the three international acts, and added that she thought they would have done a much better job.

A young man, referred to as Kid, said, “I enjoyed I-Wayne and Wayne Wonder but it was not the best show, but it was okay. They ended too early and did not let the last act perform. There were too many locals who did not want to come off the stage.”

Kaka said the show was boring and the local artistes were much better than their international counterparts. “I find the international artistes were not necessary; they should have just had a home grown show because more locals would have made it better.” She also stated that the previous Independence concerts were much better.

Lastly was Shareese, who said the concert was wonderful. “I enjoyed myself and the turnout was good,” she added.

The concert was held at the Verchilds High School Playfield and featured I-Wayne, Bugle and Wayne Wonder out of Jamaica and local artistes including Infamous, Jah Fire, Dagah, SMI, ITYC and KC-5.
