    Roadtown, Tortola - The Department of Human Resources has completed the first in a series of Personal Finance Management Workshops for public servants.

     

    The workshop, which was a collaborative effort between the Department of Human Resources’ Employee Relations Unit and the Ministry of Finance, was attended by both junior and senior level public servants to educate them on various financial planning techniques that would help prepare them for a sound economic future, including proper retirement planning.

     

    Acting Permanent Secretary in the Deputy Governor’s Office Ms. Arlene Smith speaking at the opening of both sessions welcomed the participants and encouraged them to make the best of the information shared so that they can put it to practice in their everyday lives.

     

    Officers took part in interactive discussions on being better stewards of their personal finances; utilising the benefits of the Government’s remuneration system; creating a budget and effectively managing it; being a better administrator of their credit and debit transactions; protecting their savings from the eventualities of life; educating themselves regarding the basics of insurance purchase; being smarter investors; and taking advantage of professional and personal development opportunities.

     

    Mr. David Archer, Ms. Clearlie Brown, Ms. Lisa Donovan and Mr. Jeremy Hodge from the Department of Human Resources, Ms. Jenifer O’Neal and Ms. Shaina Smith from the Ministry of Finance facilitated different aspects of the workshop.

     

    The Employee Relations Unit serves as a channel for the resolution of employee’s work and other related problems by providing pertinent intervention, effective resources and the promotion of self-development and overall wellness.
