Operation Future targets High Schools

Jacynthia Foster receives gift
Police Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts - After a brief break for the summer, the officers of Operation Future, headed by Const. Laughton Percival, on Monday 21st September visited the Washington Archibald High School and conducted the morning assembly there.

The morning’s proceedings commenced with the singing of the National Anthem by the students, followed by a prayer by a teacher, Ms. Bailey.  WPC Lyndita Powell read the scripture while WPC Whattley rendered a beautiful rendition of Whitney Houston’s ‘Greatest Love.’

The group was also joined by Mr. Andre “Magic Man” Phipps, who has now become an honorary member through his participation in all of its activities.  Mr. Phipps is also one of the lead spokesperson in the group as a result of his personal experience of the loss of a loved one through violence.  In his presentation to the high school students, he expounded on a numbers of issues affecting youths such as drugs, gangs, sex and teenage pregnancy. He admonished them to stay away from a life of crime and to study so that they can become whatever they choose to be.

The highlight of the morning’s assembly was the announcement that Digicel has come onboard as a partner and sponsor of the group’s efforts in steering our youths away from crime and deviant behavior.  Marketing Manager for Digicel, Ms. Sharez Laws, was present and made an inspiring presentation to the students urging them to interest themselves in their school work as it is only through education that their dreams can be realized.

She centered her presentation on three thoughts, I can do it, keeping a positive attitude and if you believe it you can achieve it.

At the end of morning’s assembly Ms. Laws presented two Digicel gift packages to two deserving students, Jahnyedi Peets and Jacynthia Foster, who answered questions arising from her presentation.

Mr. Govia, Principal of the school, thanked the group for their intervention and urged the students to take the messages serious.
