Mr. Grant Meet With Nationals At A Town Hall Meeting In New York City
Political Leader of the People's Action Movement, Mr. Lindsay Grant held a Town Hall meeting in the Bronx New York last Sunday, 4th December with nationals of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. Despite a snow storm earlier that day, it was remarkable to see that over one hundred nationals were present to participate in a lively discussion on the state of affairs in the homeland.
Mr. Grant thanked nationals abroad for their contribution over the years to the socio-economic and political development of St. Kitts and Nevis. He also seized the opportunity to update these nationals on some of the major challenges currently confronting our nation, including Crime, Land Distribution, the Sugar Industry, the Economy, the Impact of the National Debt, Electoral Reform, and meaningful Participation of Nationals Abroad (and at Home) in the development of their nation.
A number of new initiatives were presented by the Leader of the People's Action Movement to address the problem of crime in St. Kitts and Nevis. These included the need for the leaders of all the political parties to speak with one voice; the selection of the Commissioner of Police by national consensus; the placement of the Police hierarchy on contracts based on performance and productivity; and a truly functional National Crime Council to advise Government on matters relevant to the issue.
Mr. Grant, The Political Leader of the PAM, presented the plans and programs of the People's Action Movement to
revive the economy of the Federation, restore some sense of security, and provide greater opportunities for all nationals to participate in the nation's development. He called on the Government to present a clear, concise and precise land policy which was open and transparent now that the sugar industry was closed. The PAM leader also disclosed that the participation of the PAM in the next general election will be directly linked to electoral reform.
Nationals expressed the hope that the People's Action Movement will continue to work tirelessly to level the playing for locals, so that they too can benefit from the same incentives which are offered to foreign investors. Nationals sent out an appeal for an end to political tribalism and also expressed a lack of confidence in the accuracy of the official information which was released by Government on a daily basis.
The Town Hall Meeting which was sponsored by PAM USA Inc. was also addressed by its Vice President Mr. Joe Mason, and the Deputy Chairman, Dr. Irvin Sweeney.
