CFBC Celebrates the Class of 2020 Commencement modified due to the COVID-19 Pandemic

By: (CFBC), Press Release

October 28th, 2020 -- The Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) will host its annual commencement on Tuesday, November 24, 2020. The ceremony has been modified in keeping with the policies and protocols as outlined by the National Emergency Operations Centre. The safety of students, faculty and staff remains paramount in all our plans and activities.

Dr. Jacqueline Austin, President of CFBC, stated “Our graduates have worked diligently to accomplish this significant milestone in their academic journey and personal development and we believe it is important that we honour them for their resilience and determination as we continue to navigate the global COVID-19 pandemic.”

The modified in-person ceremony will be restricted to graduates, faculty and staff but family, friends and well-wishers will be afforded the opportunity to participate virtually enabling them to still share in this significant moment in the graduates’ lives.

Ms. Aldencia Francois alumni representative reaffirmed the decision for an in-person commencement albeit with a modified format. Student Government Association Representative Ms. Jamique Young expressed excitement as she admonished the graduates: “This is going to be a graduation like no other! COVID-19 has certainly taught us that every moment in our lives is to be celebrated …” As members of the planning process, they are both pleased that graduates still can celebrate in an in-person ceremony.

The keynote speaker for this year’s commencement ceremony is the Honourable Jonel Powell, Minister of Education, Youth Sports and Culture. Minister Powell is an alumnus of the CFBC. Family, friends and well-wishers are encouraged to plan celebratory events after the ceremony to commemorate the momentous occasion while observing the physical distancing protocols. As many colleges and universities globally adjust commencement ceremonies, honouring CFBC graduates remains at the forefront and the ceremony promises to be a fitting tribute as graduates embark on a new journey in their lives.
