BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Miss Independent Dance scheduled to be held at Michael’s at Frigate Bay is said to be the place to be this weekend.
Cheddi Bradshaw of Island Soul Entertainment, organisers of the event, said that the Saturday, September 26 dance is dedicated to the ladies.
“It’s for the ladies who can take care of themselves and are very proud of themselves,” he said. “Of course, the men have to come out and make the dance nice as well.”
Bradshaw has organised a marketing crew by the name of Island Soul Street Team and they are responsible for making sure the event is properly promoted.
The music for the night will definitely be on top with some of the best sounds on the island, including Evolution and TNO Sounds and, of course, the dance would not be an official ladies night without a female DJ representing them. Bradshaw said the talented Sweet Sister Sensia would be representing the ladies in a big way.
He said there would also be a special guest artiste who would definitely take the party to another level.
Kervin ‘Infamus’ Benjamin of Cayon, who has been taking St. Kitts by storm with his hit single 21 Gun Salute (We Miss You), will also be performing at the party.
“He [Infamus] also said that he has a few other hit tracks up his sleeves to preview exclusively at Miss Independent,” Bradshaw revealed.
Since it is a ladies night themed-party, the dance would not be complete without one of the most favorite things the ladies love to do - taking photographs.
“We gonna have a little photo studio setup at the venue, so there is free photography for everyone by RJM Photo Works. And by the time they awake, the photos will be posted on Facebook and at www.islandsoulent.com,” Bradshaw said.
Ladies are free until 11:00 p.m. and will have to pay EC$20 after that time, and can party non-stop until the sun rises.
Bradshaw said that his team would try its best to have as much parties as often as it could.
“Island Soul feels because of some of the economical and social issues that we're facing, people barely feel the urge to party. But on the contrary, we still been getting a lot of complaints of boredom and that there is nothing to do on weekends anymore. So, we decided to promote some events and create an atmosphere where people can enjoy themselves again,” he said.
He added that their intention is to eventually be able to host events twice a week that are not just limited to parties. These events, he explained, are aimed at creating an atmosphere that caters for the young and not so young.
The Island Soul Street Team also organised a ‘Back to School’ party that was held at the end of August.
The organisers said that they experienced a few hiccups, but from the time they got everything sorted out. They also said that the party went down well with great reviews and they hope to make the Miss Independent an even more joyous event.
“Security is going to be tight. It’s gonna be 10 ladies to every man. We encourage no smoking, we don’t want any smoke choking off the girls nor messing with their nice perfume,” Bradshaw said.
