Sagicor supports Pink Lily Cancer Care and Reach for Recovery as part of Pinktober activities

The team at Sagicor Life in St Kitts and Nevis share a moment to demonstrate their support for activities during Breast Cancer Awareness Month
By: Sagicor, Press Release

St Kitts and Nevis, 5th November, 2020: Each year, October is observed as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and during this time, special attention is taken to raise awareness about this disease and to raise funding for those impacted. For many years now, Sagicor has observed Pinktober in all its markets and in St Kitts and Nevis it’s no different.

In the month of October, the team conducted many activities to support organisations who work industriously to educate the public and provide care to those who are challenged with the disease.

This year, donations of $3,000 each were given to Pink Lily Cancer Care in Nevis, and Reach for Recovery SKB Breast Cancer Support, organisations whose vision is to sensitize and educate on breast cancer as well as to provide support for survivors and educate and offer opportunities for early detection.

Denrick Connor, Sales Manager for Sagicor Life in St Kitts and Nevis said, “The importance of supporting the fight against breast cancer should never be understated. This disease has demonstrated that it has no regard for age, gender or social status. Education and awareness is key, so that everyone understands the importance of doing breast health checks, however, continued financial support is also needed so that organisations can do all that is needed to ensure we help those who have been afflicted, survive and thrive, while research continues for a cure.  This year we are happy to support Pink Lily, and Reach for Recovery.”

“During October our staff wore pink to bring attention to the work that needs to be done and to stand in solidarity with survivors and all those who have been touched by this disease.”

Additionally, for the third year running, Dr. Keisha Liddie, MPH MBBS, Director of Community Health and Services, as part of her social responsibility, visited the Sagicor offices to remind the staff about early detection. She also took the time to conduct and teach staff members and clients about breast self-examinations.

At the cheque presentation ceremonies, both Ms. Cindy Freeman, Public Relations Officer for Pink Lily, and Ms. Edisha Gumbs, a member for Reach for Recovery, expressed deep appreciation to Sagicor for the continued support. The Reach for Recovery team indicated that Sagicor’s donation will go towards funding the organisation’s “Pink Bump Initiative” which is designed to spread the message that “Early Detection Saves Lives”. The project will start from Saturday 7th November and the Reach for Recovery team will be painting selected speed bumps pink and erecting signs next to the speed bumps that read, "Felt that bump? Get checked today".
