By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Government is committed to develop an environment for entrepreneurial and economic success in St. Kitts and Nevis.

That commitment comes as the Ministry of International Trade and its Small Business Development Unit continue to facilitate business development in the Federation by working to create wealth, business growth, economic development and national competitiveness.

Wendy Phipps, Minister of International Trade, gave the commitment during her speech to open a week of activities to celebrate World Entrepreneurial Week in the Federation.

“With this business-friendly support system in place, our people will be empowered to live more independent lives, be less reliant on others for their source of employment and income, while creating work for the local labour force that is sustainable throughout the life course. When this is achieved everybody wins! Namely, the entrepreneur, the workforce, the private sector, the local communities, Government and our future generations, “ the Minister said.

There are a number of small businesses that make the overall economic environment in St. Kitts and Nevis, and Minister Phipps congratulated all entrepreneurs for “their ongoing commitment to business development, economic participation, risk-taking and job creation, particularly during this time of great economic uncertainty and hardship created by the COVID-19 pandemic”.

To this end, she encouraged the public to actively support the local activities that have been planned in observance of Global Entrepreneurship Week 2020.

This year’s Global Entrepreneurship Week is being celebrated under the theme: “Education, Ecosystems, Inclusion and Policy”.

From the Education perspective, Minister Phipps said that it emphasises the skill sets and knowledge base necessary to ensure business success; while Ecosystem provides the available skilled labour force and space for the business to be set-up and grow.

On the calendar of activities are a number of radio appearances and a panel discussion as well as entertainment show.
