By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Deputy Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Peter Turnquest, has resigned following days of pressure to do so after several reports alleged that he was involved in fraud.

Turnquest, on Wednesday (Nov. 25), submitted his resignation and it was accepted by that territory’s Prime Minister, Dr. Hubert Minnis.

In a statement issued on the said evening, the Prime Minister explained that he accepted the resignation with immediate effect.

He thanked the former Finance Minister for his service to the country, “especially during the COVID-19 pandemic”.

Turnquest had allegedly been caught up in a $30 million fraud claim that allegedly involved a “bogus loan”.

Local media entity Eyewitness News Bahamas reported that a writ filed in the court against Captain Randy Butler and Sky Bahamas also saw Mr. Turnquest being mentioned.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that he would serve in the capacity as Minister of Finance in the meanwhile until a substantive appointment is made.
