BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - AN EC$10,000 reward is being offered to anyone with information that could lead to the apprehension and successful prosecution of the perpetrator(s) who had cut its Fibre Optic Cables, which resulted in the disruption of Internet and TV services to several areas in the island.
Residents in the New Road, Lower and Upper Monkey Hill, northwards to Bayfords were all left without service shortly after 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening (Nov. 28) until 11:30 a.m. yesterday.
The Cable, in a statement Sunday morning, explained that “someone has deliberately cut several parts of its new fiber that was recently installed in St. Peters, on Thursday, November 25th”.
That Fire Optic Cable, according to The Cable, is also being used by Digicel and has also affected its customers in both St. Kitts and Nevis.
The two telecommunications providers have put up a cash reward for the perpetrator(s) who were responsible.
“The Cable would like to warn that it is a criminal offense to damage its infrastructure and urge the perpetrator/s to cease and desist. The Cable has called in the police and expects a full investigation into the matter. Furthermore, The Cable and Digicel are jointly offering a reward of $10,000 to anyone with information that can lead to the identification and successful prosecution of the culprit,” the statement read.
This is the second time in as many weeks that subscribers to The Cable were affected by an outage. In fact, last week a similar problem occurred in the same area and residents were left without both internet and television services for more than 24 hours.
