Minister’s son reportedly commits suicide in The Bahamas

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE island chain of The Bahamas was thrown into grief and mourning when news broke that the son of one of the sitting ministers of government allegedly committed suicide in his home.

Reports out of Nassau indicate that the son of Environmental Minister Romauld Ferreira was found unresponsive at his home yesterday afternoon (Dec. 3).

Confirmation of the suspected suicide was made by Assistant Superintendent of Police, Audley Peters who told reporters that the young man was found lying on the floor in his bedroom.

This raises the ever-growing question of the mental health of young people during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has highlighted that 16 percent of the injury of people with mental health challenges are those between the ages of 10-19.

WHO added that half of all mental health conditions start at the age of 14 years.

Police have not yet given details of what may have triggered the move by the young man, but condolences and support have been pouring in for the Minister from both sides of the political divide.
