CXC promises a speedy completion of review process

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) is still in the process of dealing with queries regarding this year’s July/August examinations.

This year’s exams have reportedly been marred by a number of concerns from students, parents and teachers from Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago in the south, to Jamaica in the West.

Students and teachers have raised a number of queries concerning wrong grades, no grades and total absence resulting in ungraded results being presented.

But the body in a statement on Monday (Dec. 7) explained that it “continues to work assiduously to complete Queries and Requests for Reviews, in order to finalise grades for Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination July/August examinations”.

Students are only in possession of their preliminary grades, which are not accepted by most higher education institutions for admittance due to the fact that those results can change.

CXC explained that it understands the “psychosocial impact” of the extended COVID-19 related circumstances and has heard the concerns of officials from various Ministries of Education, teachers, parents and students with regards to the queries.

Those concerns, CXC noted, are being addressed with further consideration of the hardships that students and their parents might have been experiencing.

And with the addition of Requests for Reviews which have been submitted, CXC has been reviewing borderline cases, in particular, single grade changes.

CXC noted that this approach would help to expedite the process of reviews.

“We are committed to a thorough and speedy completion of the review process as we understand that the wait has been long for many. It is expected that this process will be completed shortly and we therefore request your continued patience and support as we carefully navigate this challenging period. CXC will provide a further update next week, via a media briefing,” CXC said in its statement.
