BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE number of people tested positive for the COVID-19 virus in St. Kitts and Nevis on Thursday (Dec. 17) increased by two after two foreign nationals had their samples returned.

Confirmation of the latest cases came in a media statement from the Ministry of Health, explaining that the two individuals arrived from the United States on December 12 and have been notified of their results.

“As of yesterday, December 17, 2020, the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has confirmed two additional cases of Coronavirus disease. These international travellers landed in St. Kitts on December 12, 2020 from the United States of America (USA) and have been in quarantine at one of the COVID-19 certified hotels since arrival in the Federation,” the statement read.

The Ministry noted those additional cases bring the total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases to 30 with 20 on St. Kitts and 10 on Nevis.

“Please note that 24 cases have fully recovered with zero deaths. There are now six (6) active cases. These patients are stable and are being monitored,” the Ministry said.

It also stated that all frontline workers at the Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw International Airport, SCASPA and those in the hotel and tourism sector continue to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols along the corridor of containment between the ports of entry and hotel/accommodation sites.

In seeking to assure the public that all measures are being adhered to, the Ministry of Health outlined a number of strict measures that are being followed by all frontline workers.

    • In-depth contact tracing in an effort to effectively assess the persons with whom the recently diagnosed cases would have interacted; and
    •    Quarantine, monitoring and testing of contacts as indicated.

Meanwhile, residents were implored to continue to undertake the strict measures to prevent an outbreak of the virus, such as wearing a face mask when in public places, maintaining good hand hygiene, maintaining physical distance of at least six feet from others when in public places and avoiding crowds and events.

“These control measures work and we are encouraging you to continue,” the Ministry of Health advised.
