McKnight shooting victims identified

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - POLICE have identified the two victims of last evening’s (Jan. 11) shooting incident that occurred in the McKnight area as Jahquan Merritt and Lamont Heyliger.

     

    The two young men were shot sometime after 6:00 p.m. in Lower Thibou Avenue.
     
    In responding to the report of a shooting incident in the mentioned area, police said they found the motionless body of McKnight resident  20-year-old Heyliger with multiple gunshot wounds.

     

    He was pronounced dead on the scene by the District Medical Officer.
     
    Police noted that a second individual, 19-year-old Merritt of Fort Thomas Road, sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to the JNF General Hospital via an ambulance from the Emergency Medical Services.
     
    Investigations have so far revealed that Heyliger, Merritt and several other people were in a shed when an individual shot both men. 
     
    These are the first two homicides for the year following 10 recorded in 2020.
