Poor man’s pocket wins big

By: Poor Man’s Pocket Domino Club, Press Release

BASSETERRE, ST KITTS, January 14th 2021 - On Sunday 10th January, Gejoe’s Chill Spot played host to the official prize giving ceremony marking the end of the first installment of the Federation’s newest and most exciting domino tournament.

The brief ceremony saw the distribution of thousands of dollars in cash and prizes including the coveted first place trophy to Poor Man’s Pocket Domino Club, which took home a cheque for $1500.00 as well as several individual prizes including the ‘Highest Scoring Female Player’.

Samal Duggins, who had the honour of presenting the prizes on behalf of title sponsor, Montraville Farms, recorded his gratitude to the participants, the organizing committee and the domino enthusiasts who supported the tournament throughout its three-month run.

Duggins stated, “When we started this journey three months ago the idea was to give back to the community but we never imagined that the community would have given us so much. What we received in the last three months could never be explained in words and could never be quantified in cash or prizes. We came in as sponsors and three months later we are family.”

Duggins also handed out tokens of appreciation to the committee members including committee chairman, Cuthbert “Cutie” Caines, who ably hosted the ceremony.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Colleen Fyfield who made special mention of the participating venues: Gejoes Chill Spot, Tropix Bar and Grill, Lover’s Bar, Coziers Bar, Joshua’s Bar and Restaurant and Pet’s Chill Spot as well as the contributors: Dale Isaac, Spectrum ATV, 869 ATV, The Rt. Hon Dr. Denzil Douglas, Carol Evelyn, Carib Brewery, Brimstone Hill Petroleum, Freedom FM and Buckie Got It.

The Montraville Farms St Thomas-Trinity Tournament ran from October 4th 2020 to December 19th 2020 and saw the following nine clubs compete: Poor Man’s Pocket (1st Place), Masters (2nd Place), Alley Boyz (3rd Place), Til A Morning (4th Place), West Farm, Yard Boyz, New Comers, Knock Dem Out and Link Up Bar.

The tournament returns later this year.
