BVI Press Release
B.V.I. Tuesday, September 29 – Demolition work will commence on the roof of the Central Administration Building in preparation for the installation of the siplast multi-layer roofing system.

“As the roof is demolished, it will be cleaned and the first layer of the siplast multi-layer roofing system will be installed,” Project Manager, Mr. John Penn told the Department of Information and Public Relations.

“The public is being reminded that the contractor’s staging area is at the rear of the building; this is the area where most of the material will be stored and then loaded onto the roof via an external construction elevator at the western end of the building. Caution tape will demarcate the area for the construction staging area” Mr. Penn said.

“As a precautionary measure we are hereby advising any staff member who parks at the back of the Admin Building, that soon they will no longer be able to park there,” he continued.

The work being performed is part of the air quality improvement project which consists of the roof replacement and the interior remedial works which will include the re-design of the air condition system, upgrading the ceiling grid and tiles, the installation of energy-efficient lighting fixtures and new air conditioned ducts and the replacement of carpet.

According to Mr. Penn, once the demolition phase is completed the next phase will include the placement of the insulation and lightweight concrete which will be utilized to form the roof slopes.

Mr. Penn encouraged the building’s occupants to be patient and cooperative as the ministry endeavours to make the building a safe, comfortable, and healthy environment as possible.

Government signed a $1.9 million contract with Roy’s Construction Inc. whose offices are based in St. Thomas, USVI. The agreement was signed on July 13, for the removal and replacement of the existing roofing system at the Central Administration Building.

The Ministry of Communications and Works is committed to ensuring the continued development and proper maintenance of the Central Administration Building in compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) and other international standards.
