BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - SOCA sensations from around the Caribbean are getting ready for the Seventh Annual International Soca Awards to be held in the Turks and Caicos on Friday, October 30.

The 36-category event includes Male Soca Performer of the Year, Soca Producer of the Year, Best Soca Music Video, Soca Duo Group of the Year, Best New Female Soca Artiste, Soca Song of the Year, Soca Artiste Album/CD of the Year, Over All Soca Band of the Year and Favorite Up Tempo Soca.

Meanwhile, seven powerful female artistes, Calypso Rose, Denyse Plummer, Fay-Anne Lyons, Singing Francine, Singing Sandra, Ella Andall and Allyson Hennessy, were chosen to be honoured by the Soca Awards Organisation.

According to socaawards.com, the organisation was founded in 2003 by a Trinidad and Tobago native and entrepreneur, Colin ‘CJ’ Jackman, to bring recognition to the Soca and Calypso genre.

It added that the International Soca Awards includes all artistes that are actively producing hits but not limited to any Caribbean island. The organisation also welcomes the entertainer who has continuously worked to come out on top, or one that just has made a difference by content, imagination and, in particular, advancement in the craft.

The Sixth Annual Soca Awards ceremony was held at the St. Kitts Marriott Hotel under the patronage of the Minister of State for Tourism, Sport and Culture, Senator Richard Skerritt.
