The St Kitts Nevis Defence Force Commences Recruit Course

    The St Kitts Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF) training branch is presently conducting a twelve (12) weeks Recruit Course. This course commenced on Monday 17 August 2009 with nineteen (19) recruits.
     
    The aim: Of recruit, training is to qualify the maximum number of entrants to the St Kitts Nevis Defence Force to the required standards in core military knowledge and skills, and to develop, in them, soldierly qualities. The aim can be divided into three parts:
     
    1. To enable recruits to achieve the competencies required to commence a dignified profession.
    2. To inculcate soldierly qualities including a will to win, dedication to duty, honour, compassion and honesty, mateship and teamwork, loyalty, physical and morale courage.  
    3. To motivate recruits towards developing a military career.
     
     The scope: of a Basic Recruit Course covers two main subject areas:
     
    i.  Military subjects such as Military Drill and Discipline, Map Reading and Basic Land Navigation, Skill at Arms, Communication Procedure, Field Craft, Cover and Concealment, Survival, Internal Security, Basic Leadership, Basic Seamanship.
     
    ii. Non-military subjects include Maths, English, Peer Pressure, Motivational Speech Preparation, Money Management, Disaster Preparedness, Relationship with the Public, Cooperation with the Police, Stress Management.
     
    Result: The highly qualified and experienced training team will ensure that on completion of the course, successful recruits through thorough and numerous evaluation processes will be well-rounded professionals who will posses the necessary knowledge and skills that they will require to function effectively and professionally wherever assigned to work. Application of the basic knowledge acquired on Recruit Course 01/09 will serve to enhance productivity, professionalism and efficiency of each recruit upon which they can build a lifetime career.
     
    The Commander of the St Kitts Nevis Defence Force, Lt Col Patrick E Wallace who instructed to commence the recruit course 01/09 emphasizes that the Defence Force will continue to prioritize with education being the way to enhance professional and personal development of its members.
