BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE number of COVID-19 cases in St. Lucia continues to increase as health officials confirmed yesterday (Feb. 11) that 278 new cases have been added to the list.
Health officials disclosed that the Ministry of Health and Wellness received confirmation of the new cases of COVID-19 from a batch of 617 tests conducted on samples taken during the period January 29 to February 11, 2021.
The Ministry of Health in a statement provided a breakdown, which stated that on Monday (Feb. 8) 287 tests were conducted with 117 positive samples and on the following day, 330 more tests were done and 161 positive samples were returned.
“All of the 278 individuals were seen at various respiratory clinics in the communities where they were assessed and tested for COVID-19. As per existing COVID-19 testing protocols, each individual was placed in home quarantine by health care practitioners while awaiting the receipt of their COVID-19 test results,” the Ministry said.
As a result of that 24-hour growth in numbers, the Ministry is currently conducting a large scale contact tracing effort to identify contacts of the confirmed cases.
“Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 17 individuals bringing the total number of active cases currently in the country to date to 973. Two of the active cases are in critical care at the Respiratory Hospital and all of the others are presently stable,” the Ministry added.
The new cases have taken the total number of cases diagnosed in the country to date to 2,415.
In reminding the citizens and residents of the protocols, the Ministry of Health emphasised on the importance of practicing behaviors that would reduce the spread of the Coronavirus.
