Basseterre, 13 December 2005: UTS-CariGlobe boasts of its commitment to Nation Building in St. Kitts and Nevis. According to the Managing Director of the company Clecton Phillip, UTS-CariGlobe (CHIPPIE) is one hundred percent dedicated to the growth of the local economy.
"Our philosophy at CHIPPIE is Nation Building. We're into contributing to this economy in a big way because it is smart business to be into Nation Building. If you don't look after the community the community cannot look after you&, period."
Phillip was at the time a special guest on ZIZ's newest television programme "On the Platform" morning show, which premiered last week hosted by Wanda Connor and Larry Vaughn.
The Managing Director of what is the only genuine (100%) Caribbean company offering mobile services in the Federation told Wanda Connor, one of the hosts of the morning show, UTS-CariGlobe's philosophy reflects the way he thinks personally. "I am a mere foot soldier in the war to promote and protect our way of life, our economy and the future of this Federation and until the last dog dies that is what I will continue to do. We will contribute to building a Nation of people that shoot for the stars, a Nation of people that don't take a back seat to anyone, a Nation of people who feel we are just as good as anyone else. We will strive to help build a Nation of youths that are enterprising, passionately patriotic, focused on excellence, creative and competitive and who feel that they can compete with anyone from anywhere as long as they are given the opportunity," Phillip said.
The Managing Director, who has a vast amount of business experience having worked in the public and private sectors at the administrative and policy making levels for several years at home and abroad, took the chance to make an appeal to policy makers to provide more opportunities and the enabling environment that would empower our local people. "Any people that does not spend enough to provide for the poor will not be able to spend enough to protect the rich. You think poverty is poor people problem&think again&is all a we problem" he quoted famous female Reggae Dancehall artist Tanya Stevens.
When asked about how competitive UTS-CariGlobe was and what differentiates it from the other mobile operators in St. Kitts and Nevis, Phillip said that in addition to being a genuine local company with a "Nation Building philosophy", his company offers rates within CHIPPIELand that are unmatched. All CHIPPIE to CHIPPIE calls in CHIPPIELand are billed as local calls. So when you call St. Martin (which is likely the island most traveled to and called by Kittitians and Nevisians) you are making a local call and when you visit St. Martin and you make a call to another CHIPPIE phone it is also a local call.
CHIPPIELand is the commercial name for all countries (Curacao, Bonaire, St. Martin, St. Maarten, Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Kitts and Nevis) from which a CHIPPIE customer can call without paying roaming charges.
Phillip told viewers to the (On the Platform) morning show, "All the money we make at UTS-CariGlobe stays in the Caribbean. But money is not what drives me. Contributing to my country is what drives me and doing the right thing for mankind is what drives me. He joked, when I die and I'm asked what I've done, I want to be able to say, "Lord I tried my best, and this is what I did."
Several of the company's phones were displayed on the show and the hosts of the programme described the display, as the best and widest selection of phones that they've seen on the show so far.
UTS-CariGlobe has offices in St. Kitts (on Cayon Street, Basseterre) and Nevis (The Key Complex, Charlestown) and some two hundred resellers of phone cards.
The company's slogan is "CHIPPIE...Is We Own Ting."
