Police hunt for child kidnapper

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MEMBERS of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force are hunting for a teenager who last evening (Oct. 1) abducted a male infant from his home, but was subsequently caught in Basseterre.

Following information reaching SKNVibes last evening about the abduction, this media house [today] visited the Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Cromwell Henry, who confirmed that the incident did occur.

Henry said the police are currently searching for Jabarie Archer of Sandy Point, who reportedly walked into a yard in Parson’s Village and abducted a two-year-old male.

“At about 8:45 last night, there was a party at a home in Parson’s Village. Apparently, a two-year-old child was in the yard with his paternal grandmother when a young man, identified as Jabarie Archer of Sandy Point, picked up the child and left with him on a bus for Basseterre.

“The child’s father was subsequently informed and he immediately left for Basseterre, where he encountered Archer and the infant in the vicinity of the Ferry Terminal. He approached Archer and they had a confrontation. However, a police officer who was in the immediate vicinity intervened and the child was returned to his father,” Henry said.

Henry however noted that before the police officer could have gotten the facts to the cause of the incident, Archer had already dispersed from the area.

He added that preliminary investigations revealed that Archer is not related to the infant, and before further information could be gleaned, the wanted teenager has to be caught and questioned.
