BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Ministry of Health and Wellness in St. Lucia had reported a jump in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the island.

The Ministry explained in a statement that on Monday (Mar. 1), the result of tests conducted by the Ezra Long Laboratory concluded that 155 new cases of COVID-19 were added to the growing list on the island.

Those results were reportedly from a batch of 377 samples processed on February 27, 2021, the Ministry explained, adding that the samples processed were taken during the period February 13 to February 27, 2021.

According to the Ministry, the individuals were assessed and tested for COVID-19 at various community respiratory clinics and, in keeping with the COVID-19 testing protocol, they were each placed in home quarantine by health practitioners while awaiting their test results.

St. Lucia has seen a spike in the number of confirmed cases in recent weeks, as reports coming out of the island stated that there were consecutive three-digit numbers during that period.

The latest report has brought to 3,545 the number of people who were diagnosed in the country to date.

Meanwhile, there were 25 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 who would have recovered, bringing the total number of active cases in the country to date to 464.

“At present, three of the active cases are requiring critical care at the Respiratory Hospital,” the Ministry added.

The Ministry received a boost on Monday when the territory had gotten 25,000 doses of the Oxford AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccine from the Government of India.
