Federation records another COVID-19 case

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Federation yesterday (Mar. 11) recorded one additional case of the Coronavirus on the sister island of Nevis.

Confirmation was given by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Hazel Laws at last evening’s NECO media brief, who disclosed that the case is an imported one, bringing the number of confirmed cases to 42.

This latest case was reportedly on Nevis, where the number has increased to 13 on that island and 29 on St. Kitts.

Dr. Laws reminded that 24 days would have elapsed between the last recorded case of COVID-19 and yesterday’s confirmation.

Meanwhile, another batch of students (74) from the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine returned to the Federation to begin the two-week quarantine process.

“Again, we are going to follow the same protocols. They are going to be tested upon arrival, they will spend 14 days in quarantine, be tested on day 14 and then they would be officially released from quarantine once their results would have returned negative,” noted Dr. Laws.

Testing locally for the virus, the CMO declared that over 10,000 samples have been tested with 42 returning positive, “with a positivity rate of 0.4 percent”.
