BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, March 19, 2021 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) - Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, has extended commendations to the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on his astute leadership amidst the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic.
Prime Minister Harris extended his commendation during the 6th Special Meeting of the OECS Authority held virtually today, on Friday, March 19.
As Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros was invited to address the OECS Heads on matters pertaining to COVID-19 and the equitable distribution of the vaccines.
"We feel good that you have so often represented the equality of the United Nations membership by taking time to listen and respond to the smallest member states of the United Nations with grave and structural challenges like us in the OECS," Prime Minister Harris told the Director-General.
"I offer our deep appreciation to the WHO for its lead role in the fight to defeat COVID-19 and the constructive role it plays in all fora, specifically in the context of ACT- Accelerator Facilitation Council, said Dr. Harris, who is the CARICOM Lead Head on Health.
The ACT-A is about ensuring that the 4 tools – diagnostics, therapeutics, vaccines, and upgrade of health systems are adequate and available to defeat COVID-19.
