BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Pon De Edge II Bar and Grill and Entertainment Lounge officially opened to a large gathering on Sunday, October 4.

According to co-owner Barry Wyatt, the event began sometime around 2:00 p.m. and lasted until 2:00 a.m. with music provided by Tombstone International and later in the evening by the Lights Out Band.

Wyatt said the day went well and that they wanted to create a family atmosphere by starting off the activities at around 2:00 p.m. with Bouncing Castles for the children to enjoy.

“It is for people to come and have fun, not to go out and cause confusion. What we realise is that the older people want to dine and party but the younger ones not giving them a chance to,” he said.

Wyatt explained that the Pon De Edge II is a result of the demolition of the first Pon De Edge Bar that was constructed over a year ago.

He said he was told that the first bar was affecting the ongoing construction of a pier facilitated by Director of St. Kitts Marine Works Ltd., Regiwell Francis.

“So it was demolished and we had to start all over again,” he said.

Wyatt said that in addition to himself, Kirth Charles, Mario Williams and D’Angelo Williams are co-owners of the bar.

“It started as a friends’ lime at first. One day, we just decided to pack a cooler with some drinks and a few guys were there. It was a Sunday. We were chilling and people passed by…even the Prime Minister, and we told him that we would like to get this spot and he gave us the go ahead because he liked the area for it was right next to the beach, the atmosphere was fine and everyone was enjoying themselves,” he said.

Wyatt said that the new structure is located just below the historical Brimstone Hill between Sandy Point and New Guinea.

He said the vibes is building at the Pon De Edge II and plans are in train for further development of the new venue.

“I think what we missing is the beach…we have future plans of going down on the beach,” he said.

He said the area is better than where the former bar was located, and they now have adequate parking and an overall better facility.

“One thing we’re down pack with is no smoking, no illegal drugs or weapons inside the premises, and we don’t want no smoking inside the building or no marijuana smoking around the facility,” he said.

Wyatt said the bar opens from 10:00 a.m. and lunch is served on a daily basis.

He said they would have activities on the weekends, especially on Sundays, for the entire family and that they are hoping to give every day a different theme with something different happening each day.

“We want to have different days in the week with something happening, ‘Throwback Thursdays’ could be one, and we’re also looking at having a night of modelling or a show. We’re now opened to the general public. So if you want to have a press conference or party etc., we’re available,” Wyatt said.

Wyatt extended gratitude to a number of sponsors for their kind support, including SKNVibes, B’s Enterprise, Daniel’s Trading, Captain Winston Skeete, Mark Twain and the St. Kitts Scenic Railway.
