BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - PARLIAMENTARY Representative for Constituency Five, Hon. Shawn Richards has expressed condolences to the family of a teenaged male who was tragically killed by a fallen tree on Thursday (Apr. 1).

In a brief statement on his social media page, Minister Richards wrote in part, “It is with an immensely heavy heart that I express the most profound, sincere and heartfelt condolences on behalf of the entire community of Sandy Point to the Family and Friends of young Keyon Richards who passed last evening in such a tragic and untimely manner.”

Commenting on the incident, police reported that they are investigating the death of a 15-year-old boy from Crab Hill, Sandy Point.
Police also said that in response to a report received at about 9:00 p.m., officers had found the teen’s body at the Sandy Point Basketball Court.

Early findings from the investigations revealed that the teenager and his friends were playing a game of basketball when a large tree fell on top of him.

“His friends managed to escape. He was transported via the Emergency Medical Service to the Pogson Medical Centre where he succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced dead by the District Medical Officer. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death. Investigations into the matter are ongoing,” the Police Force reported.
