Scaled-down Culturama for 2021

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - THE Culturama Committee has informed that it was given the green light to stage Culturama 47 this year, but it would be done on a scaled-down basis.

Confirmation came Tuesday (Apr. 13) afternoon in a statement from the Nevis Information Service, which noted that the Executive Director of the Culturama Secretariat, Antonio ‘Abonathy’ Liburd, acknowledged that the approval was granted following consultations with several stakeholders, including Nevis COVID-19 Task Force and Commissioner of Police Hilroy Brandy’s approval.

“A number of persons have been calling the Festival Secretariat asking about the staging of Culturama 47. You know because of COVID-19 last year Culturama 46 had to be canceled, and so early in January we decided that this year we would want to have a festival of some sort,” Liburd was quoted as saying by the Government Information Service.

This year’s Festival is slated for July 27 to August 3 and will see more traditional activities with limited crowds allowed to attend events.

He told GIS: “We have not been given permission to have a full-scale Culturama where we can have the Cultural Complex filled with persons. The present SR&O mandates that large events can only accommodate 150 persons…and that 150 is not paid patrons, it would include technicians, contestants, Committee Members etcetera, so we may be looking at about 80 to 100 paying patrons.”

For this year, events will be streamed online and via pay-per-view.
