Forecasters predict 17 storms in 2021 Hurricane Season

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AS the 2021 Hurricane Season is scheduled to begin in just over one month, forecasters have predicted an above-normal season, with an expected 17 named storms for the June-November period.
In its outlook for this season, the Colorado State University highlighted that there would be about eight hurricanes, 17 named storms, 80 named storm days and 35 hurricane days.
Additionally, the University predicted that there would be four major hurricanes of Category 3-4-5 status and nine major hurricane days.
On average, the hurricane season usually sees 14 named storms, seven hurricanes and three major hurricanes.
In 2020, the record was broken for the most number of hurricanes in one season and also the number of storms that made landfall.
There were 30 named storms for that seasons, with 12 of them making landfall in the United States of America.
