CXC addresses SBA deferrals

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - WITH many students across the region still being affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic and some by La Soufriere Volcano in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) has made a change with the School Based Assessment (SBA).

The body, in a statement today (Apr. 16), announced that given the circumstances affecting students, it has reduced the SBA requirements by as much as 50 percent in some subjects.

CXC is expected to share the broad topics to be assessed on Paper 02 for both the CSEC and CAPE subjects with the various Ministries of Education for distribution to all candidates on May 10, 2021, which would be five weeks before the start of the examinations.

“Candidates are however reminded that the entire syllabus is assessed on Paper 01. Following extensive consultations with regional Ministries of Education, CXC® has also implemented a facility for candidates to defer sitting examinations and submitting School-Based Assessments (SBAs), until the January 2022 (CSEC) or the May/June 2022 (CAPE, CSEC, and CCSLC) examinations cycle.”

CXC noted that SBA scores could be transferred for use in the next examination sitting, where the subject is offered and the rules pertaining to the reuse of SBA scores for resit candidates remain unchanged.
