Federation to host three ODIs in July

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN the upcoming Australians tour to the West Indies, three One Day Internationals were allocated to St. Kitts and Nevis.

The allocation of those matches, according to the Minister of Sports, Jonel Powell, was mainly due to the Government’s handling of the COVID -19 pandemic.

Currently, there is no active case or community spread of the deadly virus in St. Kitts and Nevis, and all persons entering the Federation must provide a negative PCR test before entry and are subjected to a mandatory 14-day quarantine.

In the territory’s allocation of the three ODIs, Minister Powell stressed that it was made possible because “we, St. Kitts and Nevis, continue to maintain a fantastic track record in terms of the management of COVID-19”.

With that said, the Minister confirmed that the Federation would be hosting three ODIs in the upcoming tour by Australia later in the year.

Though he stated that it would be in July, Powell could not have given the definitive timeline for when those matches would be held, as he was out of office at the time of request.

Only recently the Caribbean had restarted its home series after more than one year, which was undermined by the Coronavirus.

Minister Powell reminded that while the Government had made a failed bid last year for the Caribbean Premier League, there were a number of positives learnt from that, including how to handle multiple visiting teams and officials within a bubble environment.

“To date, St. Kitts and Nevis has been awarded three One Day Internationals in [the] upcoming Cricket West Indies tours in July of this year,” Powell stated.
